Snowy skies over the Firth of Forth from Blackness Castle near Edinburgh

Blackness Castle acted as the port to the nearby royal Palace of Linlithgow. It also doubles as Fort William in the hugely popular #outlander series where Jamie is whipped by Captain Randall and Jamie’s father collapses and dies having to watch his son be punished.

The castle is locally known as they ship that never sailed’ as the high castle walls but out into the water giving it the appearance of a ships hull from the water.

In the background fantastic views of three bridges built in three different centuries.

The iconic Forth Bridge built in 1889

The Forth Road Bridge built in 1964

The Queensferry Crossing built in 2017

A testament to Scotland’s long history of engineering covering three different centuries!
